VISUAL ARTS
At Koo Wee Rup Primary School, our students participate in weekly one-hour Visual Arts sessions, where our program aims to inspire, excite and motivate students to come to school, while building the language and classroom culture to enable students to feel safe in taking creative risks, to problem solve, to have a go and to express themselves creatively. We encourage students to work both collaboratively and independently as their confidence, self-esteem and self-worth grows.
The Visual Art Room is an inspiring atmosphere, of rigour, problem solving and creativity. Students are given opportunities to explore 2D and 3D techniques and processes using a range of materials and mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, construction, sculpture, air drying clay and much more. Our Visual Art sessions encourage and build confidence, curiosity, imagination, problem solving and enjoyment through engagement with visual arts making viewing, discussing, analysing, interpreting and evaluating.
Students develop a visual arts language as they progress through the year levels, beginning with the elements of line, shape, colour and texture, to the wider elements and principles of contrast, form, value, emphasis, movement, proportion and unity in the senior year levels. Students look at, analyse and discuss a variety of Australian and International artworks and artists as inspiration for their own works, from various cultural, contemporary and historical backgrounds.
Koo Wee Rup Primary School holds an Art Show once a year, to bring our staff, parents, students and local community together to view students’ artworks and to celebrate our students learning and achievements.
The Visual Art at Koo Wee Rup Primary School brings the community together and builds a greater love for creative learning and higher order of thinking skills!
